Anthony Dennis, Haldens By-Election CandidateA by-election has been called for Haldens ward on Thursday 17th November 2016. The local party is delighted that Anthony is standing as our candidate. We have seen his commitment, drive and passion for change since joining the party and know that he will make a fantastic Councillor for the local people in Haldens.

These are Anthony's words on what issues he would like to tackle as a Councillor:

"As a resident of the Haldens area there are many things I really value about living here. A really important one for me is all the green space and amenities we have literally on our doorsteps. I would want us all to work together to protect these green spaces and the unique character of Welwyn Garden City. I am also keen to work hard to fight to safeguard public services, and wherever possible enhance them, to make Haldens an even better place for us all.

I have lived in Hertfordshire most of my life, I grew up in Stevenage and have worked for local companies within Welwyn Hatfield and North Herts. I have also volunteered for local organisations including a furniture re use scheme and Age UK. Having been able to talk to care staff, the people receiving care, and their families, I can see just how important high quality and affordable care is to all of us. I strongly believe we need to find ways to look after everyone in our community.

I am passionate about fairness in society as well as public services and believe that everyone deserves to have an equal chance in life, starting in school with every child deserving to have a good/outstanding school place whatever their background or family income. So many of our children are failing to achieve their full potential and that absolutely has to change.

Locally, Liberal Democrat Councillors have visibly demonstrated their care and commitment to their communities. If elected to represent you I would work with Lib Dem colleagues to ensure that these high standards were maintained. I would always be available to listen to any concerns, and work with you to resolve them. I am keen to make sure the interests of people of all ages and backgrounds are represented on the Borough Council, as I have seen how important it is that our community works for everybody who lives here, not just the privileged few."
