LibDems call for rail fare freeze

Nigel Quinton, Barbara Gibson and Anthony Dennis at Welwyn Garden City StationNews that rail fares are due to rise yet again, some by significantly more than inflation, just as some services are being reduced still further, has been met with dismay by the local Liberal Democrats.

Nigel Quinton, recently selected to be their candidate if there were to be a snap General Election, had this to say:

"It is ironic that Govia have sought to make light of the increase by highlighting improvements in their Delay Repay scheme. What passengers want is a service that does not have delays! Unfortunately, as a regular rail user myself, I am only too aware that delays are the norm not the exception.

We are calling on fares to be frozen at the current level at least until Govia improves its woeful performance."

Recent data shows that in the rush hour more than half of trains into Kings Cross are delayed by at least 5 minutes. For details go to http://www.recenttraintimes.co.uk
