I was elected in May 2016 on a two year term for the Welham Green and South Hatfield Ward on Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council. I will also be standing for the County Council in May 2017 for the Hatfield Rural Division (e.g., Brookmans Park, Essendon and Cuffley areas).

I have been a lifelong Liberal voter but only joined the party in 2013, prompted by the sheer nastiness of much of the political campaigning in the European Parliament elections. I felt then (and still feel) that cooperation achieves much more than conflict and negativity and the European Referendum campaign has done nothing to change my mind!

I worked for the NHS in mental health services for 15 years, in central Birmingham and in Hull. My particular interests were people with drug, alcohol and gambling problems, abused women and people with dementia. Because I have worked in the community in very deprived areas (including rural areas), I understand the devastating effects of poverty, lack of transport services and poor housing on people's lives.

My husband and my two sons and I moved to Hatfield over 18 years ago. One of my sons is now in his second year at University and the youngest is at Oaklands College doing a BTEC. I left the NHS when we moved down to Hertfordshire and have been running my own successful online business as a Silversmith from home since 2006.

I have always tried to put something back into any community that I live in, Over the past few years I have been a Churchwarden, run an over 60s lunch club and currently am Vice Chair of Governors at a local secondary school. My passions are Education, Mental Health, Housing, Social Care and the maintenance of our beautiful Hertfordshire green spaces, so essential to health and quality of life.

So why should I be a Councillor? I think my greatest strength is my normality! I am a Mum, Wife and Daughter before anything else. I hate injustice and unfairness and I am tenacious in tackling problems where I find them. If you vote for me I will LISTEN to you, CARE enough to take time understanding your problems and then ACT alongside you to try to resolve them.

I sit on the following Borough Committees:

  • Environmental Overview and Scrutiny Committee (I am currently chairing a scrutiny group focusing on Street Trees as part of this committee's sub group)
  • Audit Committee
  • Health Committee
  • And of course Full Council
